This place is amazing and food is delicious. I was never a fan of sushi but tried plenty of it over the years because my wife loves it. Ever since the first day I got the food here I kid you not we been ordering every other weekend if not more. The California roll, golden tiger roll, and the tempura is too die for, tempura has the perfect crunch to it and never soggy like many other places. To the other reviewer I'm sorry this is not San Francisco but if I may add my opinion I been to plenty of sushi spots there and this one will beat them by far.
Another thing that has me coming back is the customer service and how the owner himself treats his customers like they are family. Tell me how many owners will stay back and wait for you to pick up your order when you called exactly at the minute they close? Well the owner here stayed an extra 20 min making my food instead of going home, now that is unbeatable service in my book.
If you want good food and be treated like family try this place I guarantee you will not be disappointed and I'm a picky mofo.
Thank you Steve for your great service and food.
I was underwhelmed by the food here. There's lots of great Japanese food and sushi throughout the San Francisco area and this spot doesn't cut the bill.
They probably have one of the most mediocre California Rolls I've ever had in my life, would never order that again.
Their Tonkotsu was okay, it was on the drier side. Not much going on there. Overall - not too impressed and would try another place in the future.
Ordered takeout and the rolls came out like it was done in a very quick effort, fish was not fresh at all and tasted frozen. The shrimp tasted very strange and was very hard and unpleasant to chew. Lost my appetite with the first few bites.
The Tokyo Express on Mission Street is definitely my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. My highest recommendation for fresh Sushi and Sashimi and as best alternative to Fast Food & Co. located down town SFO. Outside somewhat inconspicuous but inside is large, bright and very, very clean. Try Sashimi Sampler (photo) Dynamite Rolls (the best hot sushi ever), Golden Gate Rolls and Alaska Rolls. The ladies behind the bar and in service are always super nice and fast. Please don't forget your obligatory tip at the cash desk - you'll get a happy smile additional for that.
I like here because this place is cheap and laid back. It is almost perfect spot for quick Japanese dinner/snack. I visited here for dinner before my dinner started and I was very satisfied. Not that crowded, no one interrupted me, it was soooo chill. I took time to have my dinner enjoyed beer and a sake too. I always get the Lemon Basil Chicken cuz it is always good. Doesn't matter which Tokyo Express you go,it is always good. I am not sure about their quality of fishes (only because I haven't tried yet). I only get grilled or fried stuff here.
